How to Prepare for Your Fit Model or Bikini Posing Session
Are you preparing for your first (or next) Fit Model or Bikini competition? Since you’re here, you probably know how important posing is.
Nailing your posing can be the difference between placing and not placing. Plus, good posing makes you look more polished and competent on stage. Not to mention, knowing you’re nailing your poses is a huge confidence booster.
If you want to get the most out of your one-on-one posing sessions, showing up prepared is key. When you’re ready and know what to expect, you can make real progress and leave each session feeling like a pro.
Here’s everything you need to know so you can show up ready and get the most out of your private posing session.
1. What to Wear to Your Bikini or Fit Model Posing Session
When you’re heading to your posing session, you want to make sure what you’re wearing is correct. While you don’t need to 100% mimic your show day look, your posing coach does need to be able to see your physique.
Competition Suit: Ideally, wear your competition bikini or a practice suit with the same cut. This way, your coach can see your shape and how your physique looks in your suit.
Heels: Bring your stage heels—seriously, this is super important, even more so than practicing in your suit! Practicing in the heels you’ll wear on stage is a must for building confidence and stability. Trust me, posing without them just isn’t the same. Posing without your heels (in my opinion) doesn’t even count as practice!
Avoid Loose Clothing: Skip the baggy clothes. Your coach needs to see your body clearly to make sure your poses are on point.
2. Must-Have Essentials for Your Bikini or Fit Model Posing Session
To make the most of your posing practice, pack a small bag with all the essentials you’ll need for your session:
Competition Suit: Ideally, bring or wear the suit you plan to compete in or a practice suit with a similar cut.
Stage Heels: Always bring the heels you plan to compete in. Posing without them isn’t giving you the full picture of what it’ll be like on stage.
Water Bottle: Don’t let yourself get thirsty! Bring something to drink
Notebook or Phone: Taking notes or recording video is a huge help. You can refer to your notes or video to make sure you’re practicing the changes and implementing the feedback your posing coach gave you.
Towel: Posing is no joke—you’ll work up a sweat!
Warm-Up Clothes: Have something cozy to throw on over your bikini before and after your session.
3. Set Clear Goals for Your Posing Session
Your posing coach will probably have a plan for your session, but it really helps if you share your specific goals and challenges. Are your transitions a bit wobbly? Not sure what to do with your hands? Need help building your entire posing routine? The more specific you are, the better your coach can tailor the session to help you shine.
4. Record Your Posing Practice for Maximum Improvement
If your posing coach is okay with it, record the final time you go through your routine with your coach, going through what you covered in your session that day. Watch this back before you start posing practice outside of sessions. This is a great way to practice effectively on your own.
5. Be Open to Constructive Feedback During Your Posing Session
Posing is an art, and even small tweaks can make a huge difference. Show up to your session with an open mind, ready to try new things, and take on any constructive feedback. The goal is to find what makes your physique look its absolute best—and sometimes, that means getting a little outside your comfort zone.
6. Practice Consistency to Perfect Your Posing
You can’t just show up to a couple of sessions and expect to pose like a pro. Posing takes practice—like, real, consistent practice. Make sure you’re getting in regular posing outside of your coaching sessions.
Put your heels to practice. Without them… it doesn’t count. Posing in vs out of your heels feels totally different and your body isn’t in the same position. 4 or 5-inch heels make a big difference in how you can move and twist in your poses. Sneakers just won’t cut it.
When you practice between sessions, you and your posing coach can continue to make improvements instead of rehashing the same things over and over again.
7. Ask Questions to Get the Most Out of Your Posing Session
Don’t be shy—ask all the questions! Whether you’re unsure about a transition, need help with hand placement, or want clarity on feedback, your posing coach is there to help. The more you ask, the more you learn.
8. Embrace the Fun of Posing Practice
Yes, posing is hard work, but it should also be fun! This is your chance to show off all the hard work you’ve put into building your physique. It’s where you get to shine, show confidence, and bring your best package to the stage.
When you come prepared, stay open to feedback, and keep practicing, your posing sessions will help you feel more and more ready for show day.
